Puppy & Kitten Care

Puppies and kittens are special new members of the family— and they require special veterinary care. At Archer Veterinary Clinic, we want to be your trusted partner in providing your puppy or kitten the best possible start to life with health, wellness, and freedom from disease or parasites.

Caring For Your New Puppy or Kitten

There’s so much to love about puppies and kittens, and we want to give your new pet the healthiest start to life!

Your new pet needs lots of extra care during their first year of life. As soon as you bring your new pet home, give us a call and schedule an appointment so we can begin an individualized, comprehensive wellness plan. We will discuss a range of important services during your pet’s first visit with us including spay/neuter procedure, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite control, and more.

Please remember to bring any medical records with you!

Wellness Exams

Pets need about 3-4 wellness visits by the age of four months. These visits give us a valuable baseline of health that we can refer to as your pet ages. This ensures they are staying as healthy as possible as they grow.

Vaccine Schedules

The immature immune systems of puppies and kittens makes them more vulnerable to life-threatening disease and illness. At Archer Veterinary Clinic, we carefully schedule vaccines to suit your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk of exposure.

Diagnostics

Puppies need to be tested for heartworm infection around six months of age. Kittens are tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS during their first wellness check.

Spay/Neuter Procedure

Spay/Neuter Procedure is highly recommended for all of our patients. This routine, simple, and safe procedure benefits your pet and your family by eliminating unwanted behaviors associated with mating and pregnancy. Your pet will also be a more loving companion and healthier overall!

Microchipping

If your pet is ever lost, help them find their way home with permanent microchip identification.

The thought of your pet escaping your home, getting lost, or even stolen is a scary thought. That’s why we highly recommend all of our clients have their pet’s microchipped to ensure a lifetime of identification, even indoor pets.

Microchip implantation is quick, painless, and similar to a routine vaccination. If someone brings your pet to a local shelter or animal hospital, a universal scanner will scan the microchip beneath the skin between the shoulder blades which will read your contact information. We also recommend collars and ID tags for complete identification.
